Mashujaa Day: LSK President pens emotional tribute to late Raila Odinga

By , October 20, 2025

As Kenya celebrates National Mashujaa Day, the Law Society of Kenya President, Faith Odhiambo, has shared her tribute in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In her tribute on her official X account on Monday, October 20, 2025, the LSK boss described the heaviness that comes with celebrating this year’s Mashujaa Day just after the loss of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“Mashujaa Day celebrations often come as an opportunity to celebrate our heroes, both past and living. This year’s Mashujaa Day is different because it comes with the weight of saying goodbye to a once-in-a-lifetime hero,” Faith wrote.

On her part, Raila was a hero and a leader who didn’t just fight for change and take a step back but kept the fight going.

While also describing Raila as a leader Kenyans knew and loved dearly, the LSK boss called on Kenyans to learn how to live with that change lest it consume the nation.

“A hero who we all knew, experienced, and loved. A hero who didn’t just fight for change and take a step back but kept the fight going that we may learn how to live with that change lest it consume our nation,” she added.

She went on describing who the true heroes were while acknowledging that Raila’s light will continue to burn for generations to come.

“True heroes are those who leave a permanent light burning, and Baba’s light will continue to burn for generations to come. Baba is a leader like no other, and we honor him today and always. All hail Kenya’s ultimate Shujaa!” Faith said.

Former LSK boss call to Kenyans

Her remarks follow closely the Former President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Eric Theuri  who has called on citizens to reflect deeply on the sacrifices that secured freedoms, cautioning against complacency in upholding justice and democracy.

Speaking on an interview on a local TV station on Monday, October 20, 2025, Theuri insisted that freedom and the rule of law should never be taken for granted, warning that their importance is often only fully realized when they are lost.

“The rule of law and freedom are often taken for granted, and their true value is only realized when they are lost. Mashujaa Day should not only be a time to celebrate our progress, but also a moment to reflect on the challenges and sacrifices made in the fight for freedom,” he stated.

This comes even as many Kenyans from different spheres of life are poised to be honoured by President William Ruto for their contributions to the country.

Theuri described Mashujaa Day as one of those key moments in the national calendar when the country must pause to look back at its journey, to appreciate milestones achieved, but also to acknowledge the struggles that persist.
