A man who injured his neighbour’s eye after an alleged disagreement has been forgiven after the complainant told a Nairobi court that he was dropping the case to allow the accused person to bury his grandmother in peace.

The forgiveness came in the wake of successful reconciliation talks with the elders from Nairobi’s Shauri Moyo settlement.

Appearing alongside the accused person, the complainant Nichodemus Omondi told Makadara Senior Resident Magistrate M. Mulinge that he has, unconditionally, forgiven his attacker James Gachiri.

“Even though he hit me in the left eye, I stand firm to forgive him after he remorsefully sought forgiveness,” Omondi who is a shoe shiner and toilet cleaner in Nairobi told the court.

He further informed the court that Gachiri’s grandmother passed on and that he would want him to attend the burial without fail and in peace.

During the withdrawal application, the court further heard that Omondi had spent Ksh6000 on his treatment, money he did not expect to be refunded.

A light-hearted Gachiri appreciated Omondi’s move and promised never to commit the crime not just to Omondi but to anyone else.
