The 47-year-old man who is quarantined at Londiani Sub-County Hospital, Kericho County for exhibiting coronavirus-like symptoms is responding well to treatment.

This was revealed by Kericho County’s Health Chief Officer, Dr. Edward Ekuwam, who said that the man’s symptoms did not meet the threshold for coronavirus disease.

“The symptoms did not meet the case definition for coronavirus but we immediately isolated the person in question when he was brought to the health facility. But I am happy to report that he is responding well to normal treatment of upper respiratory tract infections ” said Dr. Ekuwam.

The patient was taken to hospital by his wife on Sunday night, March 15, after exhibiting severe cough, weak joints, symptoms doctors say are similar to those of coronavirus.

The 47 -year-old man was said to have travelled from Mombasa four days earlier to his home at Total area in Mau Summit.

“He was immediately quarantined in an isolation ward with blood samples taken to Nairobi for specialised analysis and first-aid measures administered,” said Dr. Ekuwam.

The patient’s wife was advised to self-quarantine in her house as the investigations and results from the samples taken are awaited.

Meanwhile, Lemotit Athletics Training Camp in Londiani Sub-County has suspended training due to the coronavirus disease.

Head coach, Paul Kemei, said 24 athletes have been sent home in a move aimed at keeping the virus at bay in case it strikes.

Kemei revealed that only ten athletes are in the camp now.
