Major roads set for closure ahead of blockbuster Kenya vs Morocco CHAN showdown
By Ascah Mwango, August 9, 2025Nairobi County Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches set for Sunday, August 10, 2025, in the city.
The notice comes as thousands of fans are expected to turn up for two highly anticipated Group A fixtures, creating heavy traffic around the Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Chirchir said Aerodrome Road from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout will be closed, while one side of Lang’ata Road between Madaraka Roundabout and Lusaka Roundabout will also be shut to traffic. In addition, one side of Mombasa Road from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout will remain closed during the event.
To ease congestion, motorists heading to the Central Business District from Mombasa Road have been advised to use Likoni–Enterprise Road at General Motors or the Southern Bypass at Ole Sereni.
Motorists using Lang’ata Road to access the CBD are advised to divert via Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at the Mbagathi Roundabout.
Those travelling from the city centre towards Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja, or Thika should use Limuru Road or Kiambu Road. Public service vehicles heading to Kasarani are urged to follow the Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road route through Ngomongo Roundabout.

“Those from Lang’ata Road to the CBD should use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road at Mbagathi Roundabout. Motorists from Nairobi CBD to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja or Thika should use Limuru or Kiambu Road. Matatus ferrying passengers to Kasarani should use Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road, Ngomongo Road to Ngomongo Roundabout. Motorists from Thika Road towards the CBD should use either Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road or Limuru Road. Avoid Thika Road unless going to Kasarani Stadium,” Chirchir cautioned.
Sunday’s matches will see Kenya face Morocco at Nyayo National Stadium at 3:00 pm, followed by Zambia against Angola at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, at 6:00 pm. The Harambee Stars go into the match leading Group A with four points after holding Angola to a 1–1 draw in their last outing, despite playing with ten men for much of the game.
Authorities say the traffic measures are aimed at ensuring smooth movement and safety for both fans and motorists on what promises to be a thrilling day of continental football action in Nairobi.
