A multi-agency team has been formed to investigate the deadly classroom collapse at Precious Talent School in Nairobi.

Making the announcement when he visited the school on Monday at about noon, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha assured parents in other schools that their children are safe.

Prof Magoha said the Precious Talent School deadly incident is an isolated one.

“The children of Kenya are safe in schools. We have close to 35,000 schools and this tragic incident must not be used by anyone to instill fear in public and private schools,” warned Prof Magoha.

Seven pupils were confirmed dead and 64 others admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital with soft tissue injuries.

But KNH acting CEO Kamuri said two of them have serious injuries.

Prof Magoha also ordered the primary school closed for four days for the government to ensure that pupils return to a safe environment.

The school in Ng’ando area has a population of over 800 pupils.

“In the next three or four months, a public primary school would have been built in Ng’ando,” Prof Magoha assured parents in the area.

CS Magoha said he has dispatched a team to another building that had cracks.

“My people are there and adequate measures will be taken to ensure that pupils are not exposed to a dangerous environment,” he said.
