Eliud Mutuma, who is the lawyer for Meru Senator Mithika Linturi on Monday, January 10 raised concerns over his arrest demanding that the lawmaker be arraigned in court.

Speaking to the media at Kaptembwo Police Station where Linturi is being held after he was accused of hate speech, Mutuma accused the police of engaging them in a cat and mouse game.

“By yesterday evening we expected that he will be arraigned in Nairobi today but this did not happen,” Mutuma said.

According to him, police officers decided to take the Senator to Kaptembwo Police station from Gigiri police station where he was scheduled to spend his night.

The lawyer said that the police were yet to inform him on what they were planning to charge the lawmaker with.

He said that on Sunday, January 9, sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and those from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) grilled Linturi.

“They have not informed us what they are planning to charge him with and we shall follow up to the end,” Mutuma said adding that he had also not seen the charge sheet.

Linturi was nabbed by officers on Sunday, January 9 over remarks he made during the rally.

He was nabbed while inside Rupa hotel which is located in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County.
