Ledama urges Kenyans to mirror Harambee Stars’ teamwork in nation building

By , August 10, 2025

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has called on Kenyans to emulate Harambee Stars’ unity and teamwork in addressing the country’s development challenges, following the national football team’s impressive 1-0 victory over Morocco.

In a statement posted on his X account on Sunday, August 10, 2025, Olekina used the football team’s success as a metaphor for what Kenya could achieve if citizens put aside political divisions and focused on collective progress.

“Harambee Stars can unite to beat Morocco, but Kenyans can’t unite to build their own country?” he posed.

Political campaigns

The outspoken senator specifically criticised the tendency to turn governance into continuous political campaigning, arguing that this approach hampers meaningful development.

“Stop turning every day into a political campaign — let’s fix the economy, not recycle old divisions,” he stated.

Emphasising that sustained politicking was distracting from urgent economic reforms, he cautioned both leaders and citizens against treating campaigns as if they were an end in themselves rather than a means to improve livelihoods.

“Campaigns aren’t jobs!” Olekina wrote.

Unified Kenya

His comments echo his earlier statements in which he ruled out participating in early political campaigns, insisting that his focus remains on transforming lives and uniting Kenyans.

In a post on his X account on July 27, 2025, Ledama emphasised the need for leaders to rise above politics in order to serve the people effectively.

“Kenya needs leaders who unite. I won’t campaign till 2027—I’m focused on changing lives. Together, we move Kenya forward,” Ledama stated.

As he spoke about the upcoming general elections, Ledama reminded Kenyans that every action has a consequence, asserting that 2027 is merely another election year and that life will continue beyond it.

“The choice is yours—make it wisely, but remember that every action has a reaction, whether intended or unintended…2027 is just another election year and life goes on,” he added.
