Larry Madowo seeks flash disk to take ‘peleka kwa Ruto’ video to State House

CNN International Correspondent Larry Madowo has spoken out with biting sarcasm after his dramatic road altercation with Kibra MP Peter Orero, which has continued to stir outrage across the country.

The incident, captured on video and widely shared online, showed the legislator’s vehicle being driven on the wrong side of the road in Nairobi, forcing Madowo’s car to a halt.

The journalist, who was driving in the correct lane, refused to make way, leading to a tense exchange between the two.

When Madowo began recording the confrontation, MP Orero lashed out at him angrily and told him to “take the video to President William Ruto.”

The comment, which many interpreted as a show of arrogance and political mockery, triggered an online uproar over the lawmaker’s conduct.

In a sharp comeback shared on Saturday, October 11, 2025, Madowo sarcastically revealed that he is looking for a flash disc so that he can indeed deliver the footage to President Ruto at State House.

He added that he wanted to put the video in an envelope, write the president’s name on it, and leave it at the gate for delivery.

“Who has a flash disc they can lend me? There’s a certain video I want to take to State House. I was sent to deliver it to the landlord called Ruto, so I want to put it in an envelope, write his name on it, and leave it at the gate for them to give him. So please, whoever has one, help me,” Madowo said in jest.

The altercation, which occurred on October 9, 2025, ended when Orero’s driver sped off while shouting insults at the journalist.

The footage, recorded by Madowo, quickly went viral, drawing condemnation from Kenyans who described the MP’s behaviour as reckless and unbecoming of a public servant.

The Motorists Association of Kenya also weighed in, criticising the MP’s driver for endangering other road users and calling for immediate legal action.

The association said that carrying a VIP should not be a reason to break the law, adding that leadership must be anchored in humility and discipline.

“We echo CNN’s @LarryMadowo’s concern over the reckless GOK driver. We demand the immediate arrest & prosecution of the driver to deter similar misconduct. Carrying a VIP requires humility – not arrogance. Taxpayers fund your salary. Unless it is now government policy for official drivers to speed toward oncoming traffic, we expect swift action. We equally condemn the Kibra MP for condoning such law-breaking. Leaders must lead by example,” the association wrote.
