Kuria relishes new freedom after exit from Ruto’s administration

Moses Kuria has said he has been enjoying the freedom that came with his resignation from President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking during a local TV interview on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the former Senior Economic Adviser to the President explained that stepping away from government had given him greater clarity and the confidence to express his opinions openly.

He noted that while serving in government, he often felt restrained and unable to call out certain issues, but his departure has lifted those limitations.

According to Kuria, he now feels liberated to challenge political figures, including former colleagues, without fear of repercussions. He emphasised that this newfound freedom has brought him peace of mind and a sense of fulfilment, describing life outside government as more open and empowering compared to his time within the administration.

“I am freer to take on people like Duale. I thank God for this opportunity to be able to have better clarity and to be able to speak my mind without encumbrances. Working in government was limiting in some ways; some things you cannot be able to point out. I am enjoying my freedom; freedom is sweet,” Kuria said.

He added that residents from his home region had expressed frustration with the current political environment and could decide to vote as a bloc in the 2027 elections.

“For the people I have talked to from my region across several counties, they are telling me how much they are feeling under siege from the likes of Duale. In 2027, they will put all their six million votes, give to one person, tell someone we have given you a gift of six million votes, enda ujitafutie hizo zingine na usipatie kitu, do not give us the presidency,” he added.

Resignation

Kuria officially announced his resignation on July 8, 2025, through a statement shared on his verified X account. He revealed that he had personally met President Ruto and communicated his decision, which the Head of State accepted.

“This evening I have met my boss and my friend, President William Ruto. The president has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government,” Kuria posted at the time.

The former Cabinet Secretary has been one of the most visible figures in President Ruto’s administration. He first served as the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months before being transferred to the Ministry of Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management, where he served for nine months. He was later appointed Senior Economic Adviser to the President, a role he held for 10 months before stepping down.

Looking back at his time in government, Kuria expressed pride in his contribution to the country’s economic policies.

“I thank President Ruto for having allowed me to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for nine months, and Senior Economic Adviser for the last 10 months,” he said.

He added that although he had resigned, he was proud of the joint achievements he had made with the president.

“As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I designed together with the President as our 2022 electoral platform,” Kuria said.
