Kenya Airways (KQ) on Tuesday offered one-way complimentary tickets to Kenyans travelling to Nairobi on its last flight from JFK airport in New York City.

The national carrier on Monday announced that it was temporarily suspending all international passenger services effective on Wednesday, March 25 in compliance with the national government directive.

In the statement issued by KQ chief executive, Allan Kilavuka, the carrier said that it is committed to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of its staff and customers.

“Amidst the rising concern of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), I would like to assure you that we have in place measures to maintain the highest levels of safety, security and hygiene,” said Mr Kilavuka.

Some of the measures KQ has effected to protect staff and customers include activation of their crisis management protocol to address situations as they arise and working closely with local and global health authorities.

The airline has also enhanced cleaning and sanitising procedures in all its aircrafts before a flight.

KQ has also increased the frequency of layover cleaning of its aircrafts from once every 14 days to once every seven days.

The airline has also provided personal protective equipment to staff based on the level of risk they are exposed to in their workstations, said Mr. Kilavuka.

Many airlines across the world have suspended international flights to curb the spread of coronavirus as cases surge past 380,000.
