Kiunjuri blasts Gachagua over claims Ruto fooled him
By Steve Ireri, July 22, 2025Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his recent claims that President William Ruto deceived him.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Kiunjuri accused the former DP of peddling lies and engaging in relentless attacks rather than focusing on development.
Kiunjuri said Gachagua’s remarks do not make sense, particularly because he has gone ahead to launch a political party whose symbol is an ear, yet continues to claim he is easily misled and unable to listen or discern the truth.
“You say that when we were sworn in, Ruto deceived you, and now you are asking for forgiveness. If you are always deceived and now you are telling us to hold onto the ear because your party’s symbol is an ear, what will you say if we elect you and later you tell us your party’s symbol is no longer an ear but a leg, and we should hold the leg or perhaps the knees? That is why we have decided we will stand by the truth,” Kiunjuri said, vowing to stand firmly for the truth in the Mount Kenya region.

Kiunjuri criticised Gachagua for what he termed as misleading the people of Mount Kenya, claiming that the former DP is intent on painting the government as having done nothing for the region, despite the reality on the ground.
He insisted that the truth will always outshine lies, pointing out that residents will soon see through Gachagua’s narratives.
“You know lies spread very fast, but when the truth arrives, lies disappear. You have come into Mount Kenya before us, deceiving our people by saying the government has done nothing for them.
“We have now started following you, and there is no other task we are pursuing. You tell your lies, and we will tell our truth, and when two years are over, we will see who will have more people behind them. You can deceive people, but they are not fools forever; they will eventually realise the truth. When a fool realises the truth, the one who thought he was wise goes home,” Kiunjuri said, making it clear that he is ready to challenge Gachagua’s influence in the region.
Ruto attacks
The former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary further accused the former Deputy President of using every platform to attack President Ruto rather than presenting solutions to the problems facing Kenyans.
According to Kiunjuri, leaders should focus on practical ways of addressing challenges rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.
“A wise leader is one who goes to his people and tells them, ‘I know you have challenges and I will solve them in this way or that way, and this person or that person is the cause of the problem.’ But when you see someone like our Gachagua taking the microphone, his message is always the same. Before he even says he has a problem with electricity, roads, or any other issue, and before he can say, ‘When I become president, I will do this and that,’ he starts by saying, ‘Ruto is a thief, Ruto is one-term.’ So I ask you, Gachagua, are you going to serve Kenya by insulting each other or what?” Kiunjuri posed.
