Kindiki: Your votes and IEBC will determine leaders in 2027
By Arnold Ngure, July 11, 2025Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has hit out at leaders opposed to the current regime, stating that only the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) would determine the next crop of leaders after the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Kiminini constituency on Friday, July 11, 2025, Kindiki observed that the government would remain focused despite the noise until the next polls are conducted.
“We shall remain steadfast and protect the constitution and our nation against war, violence, loss of lives, and destruction of property,” Kindiki said.
Wait for another time
“IEBC and your votes will decide who the other leaders will be after the next general elections. You will vote, and the IEBC will count the votes and announce the winner. Whoever is dissatisfied with the outcome of the vote will proceed to the courts, and when the courts make a decision, we shall proceed even if you are not content; you will wait for another time.”

The remark comes just hours after IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon was sworn in alongside six other commissioners on Friday, July 11, 2025, following a protracted court battle.
IEBC full in-tray
IEBC comes to the office with a full in-tray after being dysfunctional for years following the resignation of commissioners and the expiry of the tenure of its former chairperson, the late Wafula Chebukati.
So far, the commission is expected to announce by-elections in several constituencies and counties, including Banisa, Magarini, Ugunja, Mbeere North, Kasipul, and the Baringo senatorial seat, whose holder died in office.

The parliamentary seat for Magarini became vacant after the election victory of the immediate former MP, Harrison Kombe, was nullified by the courts. A by-election to fill this seat had been delayed due to the lack of a fully constituted IEBC.
Similarly, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi and Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku were appointed to the cabinet, making their seats vacant. Banisa MP Kullow Maalim died after being hit by a motorcycle in Nairobi.
In Kasipul, area MP Ong’ondo Were was shot by unknown assailants along Ngong Road while heading to his home in Karen on April 30, 2025. Several people have since been arraigned and charged in court over the incident.
