Kenya Power announces power outages in parts of Nairobi, Kericho and Kwale on Sunday

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced scheduled power interruptions on Sunday, August 31, 2025, affecting parts of Nairobi, Kericho, and Kwale counties as the utility firm carries out essential maintenance works.

According to the notice issued on Saturday, August 30, 2025, the outages will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some areas expected to have supply restored earlier depending on the progress of the work.

Nairobi Region

Several estates and institutions in Nairobi will be affected.

In Parklands, Limuru Road, 1st to 4th Parklands, parts of 5th Parklands, City Park, Mpaka Road, Jalaram Road, part of Ring Road, Mwani Road, General Mathenge, Eldama Ravine Road, and adjacent customers will face the power outages.

Karen, Kibera, and Langata areas are also set to be affected, withSt Thomas Seminary, parts of Magadi Road, Mukoma Road, Giraffe Centre, Bogani Road and Bogani East, Koitobos Road, Park Place, Park View, Simba Hill, Kisembe, Saifee Park, Kipevu, Banfa Road, Ndorobo Road, Muhuti Road, Munderendu Road, Brooke House, Catholic University, Banda Road, Karen C Primary & Secondary, St Hellen Lane, Hill Crest, Fair Acres, Silanga Road, and Marist Road set to face the blackout.

Don Bosco, Kufuga Lane, Kuwinda Road, Karen Green, Jesuit Fathers, Ndege Road, Mukinduri Road, Murishu Road, Forest Edge, Stedmak, Nairobi Academy, Academy Road, Mokoyet East & West, Langata Barracks, Carnivore Restaurant & Splash, Trident Park, Daisy Park, West Park, Phenom Park and Estate, SLCP Samaj, KWS, CALE Infrastructure, Ramarind, Langata EPCO, Langata South Road, KRA Langata, Panda Matt, and Galleria Mall will also be affected.

Other areas that will be affected in Nairobi are Mwiri Lane, Muiri Road & Close, Nyumba Moja, Bomas of Kenya, Ndarati Road, JKUAT Karen Campus, Kasuku Close, Chemic, Hemi, Ndovu Road, Otiende Estate, Onyoka Estate, Royal Park, KMA, NHC, Park Gardens, Langata Hospital, Langata Police, St Mary’s Hospital, GK Prisons, Sunvalley, Rubia Estate, Uhuru Gardens, Police Dog Unit, Raila Estate, Soweto Academy, Olympic Estate, Gatwekera, Fort Jesus, Kisumu Ndogo, Karanja Road, Makina, Kibera Law Courts, SHOFCO, Kibera Primary School and adjacent customers.

Kericho County

According to Kenya Power, the outage will affect Greenview Hospital, Greens Square Mall, Tebs, Kula Poa Hotel, Kimugu River Lodge, and neighbouring areas between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Kwale County

In Kwale, residents in the Mkongani and Ndavaya areas will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Areas affected include Shimba Lodge, Madabara 1 & 2, Mwaluphambe, Burani, Kirewe, Mkongani Dispensary, Tiribe, Deri, Ndavaya, and surrounding customers.

Why the Outages?

KPLC noted that the scheduled interruptions are necessary to facilitate network maintenance and system upgrades, which are key to improving power reliability and reducing unplanned outages.

The company urged customers in the affected areas to make necessary arrangements and treat all power lines as live during the outage period for safety purposes.
