Kenya Power announces planned power outage affecting 3 counties

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has once again urged its customers to be aware of a planned system maintenance that will cause power blackouts in parts of Nyeri, Embu, and Nandi counties on Monday, October 6, 2025.

Through a statement posted on its official Facebook page on the evening of Sunday, October 5, 2025, KPLC said the outage will allow engineers to carry out crucial upgrades and repairs aimed at improving electricity supply reliability across the affected regions.

Areas to experience a power blackout

According to Kenya Power, the planned maintenance will affect different areas in the Mt. Kenya and North Rift regions, running from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The company has urged customers to make necessary arrangements to avoid inconvenience during the outage.

“Good evening. Please be advised that the following areas are scheduled for planned power maintenance tomorrow, Monday, October 6, 2025,” KPLC wrote in its Facebook post.

In the North Rift region, power will be interrupted in parts of Nandi County, specifically Mbogo Valley and adjacent customers.

In the Mt. Kenya region, residents in parts of Nyeri County will be affected, including Ring Road, Baraka Estate, Kamakwa Market, Kamakwa Waterworks, Nyewasco Water, Tana Water Offices, Kamuyu Coffee Factory, Nyawira Estate, Kanoga Primary, Giathini Secondary, St. Xavier, Mwomojia, White House, Karingaini, Mt. Kenya School, Kandara Market, and parts of Ciaraini.

In Embu County, power interruptions will hit Rukuriri, Kyeni, and Mufu areas, covering Kanja Market, Mary Goretti Girls, Mufu Market, Kathageri Market, Kigumo Market, Mukuuri Market, Mbuinjeru Market, Kiagaarani Girls, Kegonge Boys, Mikundu Coffee Factory, Kathunguri Market, Njururi Market, Iriari Market, Kairiru Secondary, and Gitare Secondary, alongside nearby customers.

KPLC message to customers

Kenya Power encouraged residents in all affected areas to switch off electrical appliances during the outage to prevent damage when power is restored.

The company also assured customers that the maintenance is necessary to enhance network stability and prevent unplanned blackouts in the future.

The notice comes amid increased demand for reliable electricity across the country, with many Kenyans expressing hope that the scheduled maintenance will lead to fewer outages and improved service delivery from KPLC.
