Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 13 counties on Tuesday, October 14
By Steve Ireri, October 13, 2025Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions in parts of 13 counties across the country on Tuesday, October 14, as the utility company undertakes essential maintenance work.
In a notice issued on Monday, October 13, 2025, the company noted that the scheduled outages will affect areas in Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Nandi, Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma, the Mt Kenya region, Tharaka Nithi, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, and the coastal counties of Mombasa and Taita Taveta.
Kenya Power revealed that the maintenance work is necessary to improve the reliability and stability of the electricity network.
“Good evening. Please receive the list of areas scheduled for planned maintenance tomorrow (14th October 2025),” the post read.
In the Nairobi region, affected areas include parts of Juja Road such as Muratina Road, Juja A & B, Strawberry Plaza, Alamin Hospital, and Juja Corner Plaza, as well as surrounding customers.
Residents in Nairobi West are also expected to experience interruptions, with areas including Msufu Road, Sumba Road, Naimei Road, Ghandi Avenue, Nyayo Stadium, Masaba Road, and nearby institutions such as Strathmore University Technical College and Madaraka Primary School affected.
Parts of Kajiado County will experience outages in areas including Ongata Royal Academy, Kandisi, Balozi, Metro, and Kambi Moto, Kenya Power noted. Similarly, parts of Machakos County, including UBC, People’s Park, Maruba, Katumani, Vota, and adjacent customers, are set to experience scheduled blackouts from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

North Rift region
The utility company further revealed that in the North Rift region, areas of Kapkawa and Simbi in Nandi County, including Serem Boys, Kapkemich, St. Makarios, Kapkures, Kabiyet, and Kamoywo, will be affected during the same period.
Kenya Power added that parts of Busia County, Kakamega, and Bungoma, including Matayos, Bumala, Nambukhu, Sivilie, Sikubale, Mwibale, and Kimilili, among others, are included in the maintenance plan.

Mt Kenya and Coast regions
In the Mt. Kenya region, Kenya Power said Kangocho Market, Kariko, Mucharage, and surrounding areas will be without power, while parts of Tharaka Nithi, Murang’a, and Kirinyaga counties will also experience interruptions.
The utility company noted that Kiambu County areas, including Gitaru, Muthure, and Cura, are affected, as well as parts of the coastal counties of Mombasa and Taita Taveta, including Vikombani, Ufuta, New KCC, Maktau, Godoma, and Saltlick.
Kenya Power emphasised that the outages are temporary and are part of ongoing efforts to maintain the power network and minimise unplanned disruptions. The company urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to make necessary arrangements to manage the power interruptions.

The utility company added that all scheduled outages are expected to begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m., with some exceptions such as parts of Nandi County, where power will be off from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
