KeNHA announces traffic disruption on Mombasa Road for footbridge installation
By Ascah Mwango, July 12, 2025The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced another round of traffic disruptions along Mombasa Road as works on the Syokimau Railway Footbridge continue.
In a public notice released on Saturday, July 12, 2025, KeNHA said a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway near Syokimau Railway Station will be temporarily closed for 24 hours from midnight Saturday, July 12, to midnight Sunday, July 13, 2025.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound carriageway from Saturday, 12th July, 2025 (midnight) to Sunday, 13th July, 2025 (midnight),” the statement read in part.
Adding:
“This is to allow for the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Syokimau Railway Footbridge. KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.”

The installation of the footbridge has been progressing in phases, with similar traffic disruptions being reported over the past months to facilitate the works.
Earlier, in a notice issued on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, KeNHA alerted motorists about another planned traffic interruption on the same road near Naivas JKIA.
According to the announcement, the service lanes on the Mombasa-bound side were to be closed from Saturday, June 14, at 9:00 pm to Sunday, June 15, at 10:00 am.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Naivas JKIA will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound service lanes from Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 9.00 pm to Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 10.00 am,” KeNHA said at the time.
“This is to allow for the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Syokimau Railway Footbridge.”
In another update shared on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, KeNHA announced a two-day closure of a section of Mombasa Road near the Katani Road Junction, this time affecting the Nairobi-bound lanes.
The closure, meant to facilitate the final stages of footbridge installation, was scheduled from Saturday, May 3, at 10:00 pm to Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 6:00 am.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Saturday, 3rd May 2025, at 10:00 pm to Sunday, 4th May 2025, at 6:00 am,” the statement read.
“This is to allow for the installation of the remaining fabricated footbridge beams.”
KeNHA has urged motorists to exercise caution and patience during the disruptions and to cooperate with traffic marshals and police officers managing the affected areas.
