Kasmuel McOure warns of fake accounts using his name to spread ethnic division

By , August 16, 2025

Activist and ODM Party Youth Leader Kasmuel McOure has sounded the alarm over fake social media accounts using his name to deliberately widen ethnic divisions in Kenya.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, August 16, 2025, the activist noted that these pseudo accounts often resurface almost every time he grants an interview, critiquing certain national leaders, twisting his words to create tension and discord.

He revealed that the latest example he had seen was a particularly disturbing and distasteful claim, one that not only body-shames an entire community but does so with outright spite. McOure said he used to ignore such propaganda, but for the sake of conscience and nationhood, he insisted that he could no longer remain silent.

“There is a subtle dog-whistling on social media, propagated by pseudo accounts using my name to deliberately widen the electoral ‘Luo–Gikuyu’ divide. It surfaces almost every time I grant an interview where I critique certain national leaders. The latest example I’ve seen is a disturbing, distasteful claim that not only body-shames an entire community but does so with outright spite,” he posted.

The activist further noted that all his official communication would always come through his verified platforms.

While he has always welcomed critique and the sharpening of contradictions, he added that in this age of misinformation, Kenyans must fact-check before believing content circulated online.

He insisted that deliberate distortion of his identity or words for divisive purposes is unacceptable.

“All my official communication will always come through my verified platforms. While I have always welcomed critique and the sharpening of contradictions, I also implore Kenyans: in this age of misinformation, let us fact-check before we believe,” he said.

McOure also highlighted that these attacks have wider implications for national cohesion, warning that pseudo accounts and fake profiles exploit public figures’ identities to stoke ethnic tensions.

He added that this phenomenon undermines healthy democratic debate and erodes trust among communities.

He concluded by urging Kenyans to remain vigilant, fact-check sources, and resist manipulation.

“I used to ignore such propaganda. But for the sake of conscience and nationhood, I cannot let it pass any longer. Negative ethnicity is one of the social cancers eating away at our country, and I hope we can confront and deconstruct it through the National Dialogue Process,” he said.
