Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, sought to absolve himself from claims that he attempted to attend senate proceedings from Sabina Joy pub.
His statement came in the backdrop of a viral video, where a voice is heard telling the senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka, that the Murang’a senator was in the infamous Nairobi club.
In the video, Lusaka proceeded to deny the former Majority Whip an opportunity to address the senate, stating that according to dictates of the house, Kang’ata was in an inappropriate location.
“No no no that is not an office Senator Kang’ata. I’m sorry we cannot allow that. The rules are very clear on where you can be,” Lusaka said after he saw the background of Kang’ata’s location.
In his statement, posted on social media, Kang’ata accused his political opponents of propelling what he termed as a fake video to achieve ulterior motives.
The lawmaker stated that he is a teetotaler, debunking reports that he was in a bar along Thika Road or the infamous Sabina Joy nightclub.
The Ruto-allied legislator claimed that he was physically in the senate and presented a question on the dues owed to farmers in Muranga by the county’s milk factory.
“Kieleweke bloggers- no single drop of alcohol has ever passed via my mouth. That voice insertion into my today’s senate contribution is fake and false. The true question that I asked in Senate was about Murang’a farmers’ unpaid milk delivered to county factory,” he posted.
