Kaluma: Charlene Ruto is ideal daughter any father or nation would love
By Ascah Mwango, August 14, 2025Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has praised First Daughter Charlene Ruto for her humility, down-to-earth nature and dedication to national development.
In a statement shared via his X account on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Kaluma described Charlene as an exemplary young woman who represents values any parent would be proud of and any nation would embrace as its own.
He lauded her for remaining grounded despite her position and applauded her ongoing efforts to contribute meaningfully to the country’s growth, even referring to her as Nyar Homa Bay, a term of endearment in Luo culture meaning “daughter of Homa Bay.”
“So humble, so down to earth yet so real, the girl any father would love to call daughter, the girl any nation would love as a daughter. Congratulations @charlruto, Nyar Homa Bay,” he expressed.

His remarks came a day after Charlene Ruto paid tribute to her father, President William Ruto, for instilling in her a strong work ethic and love for agriculture from a young age.
She made the comments on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, during a booth visit by the President at the 12th Devolution Conference in Homa Bay County.
Charlene recalled that her father often took her to their rural home during Easter and Christmas holidays, where she worked on the family farms. She said those early experiences shaped her passion for agriculture and environmental conservation.
“You know you brought me up on the farms every Easter, every Christmas. We used to go to Ushago, and this is the work that has come from it. We are working with traditional beekeepers,” she said.
She revealed that under youth-led environmental initiatives, they have already planted 754,000 trees in support of the government’s 15 billion tree campaign, a flagship programme aimed at tackling climate change and deforestation.
“We are also working with young people in agriculture, and we have planted 754,000 trees with young people to contribute to the 15 billion tree campaign. Thank you for your mentorship,” she told the President, acknowledging his role in guiding her leadership journey and commitment to public service.
Charlene, who is the patron of the Smachs Foundation, has been spearheading youth-led agricultural projects across the country. At a past event, she explained that the foundation had partnered with several organisations to promote smart agriculture in schools.
