Kalonzo expresses confidence meeting with Sifuna could spark promising connection
By Ascah Mwango, August 14, 2025Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at a budding political connection with ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna after the two met and exchanged contacts during the Law Society of Kenya Annual Conference in Kwale.
In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Kalonzo expressed optimism about their meeting.
“Had a productive chat with Nairobi Senator @edwinsifuna at the @LawSocietyofKe Annual Conference in Kwale this afternoon. Exchanged numbers – I have a feeling this connection could lead to some exciting things. #futurethinking,” he said.

The remarks come at a time when internal rifts within ODM appear to be widening.
Sifuna warns ODM
Just weeks ago, Sifuna issued a warning to his party, saying he would not be part of any decision to endorse President William Ruto’s re-election.
Speaking on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Saboti, Trans Nzoia County, he said his principles would not allow him to support a leader whose governance he had consistently opposed.
“I assure ODM supporters that my stance remains,” Sifuna said.
Adding;
“Raila himself has said that this is a democratic party and any member is free to speak their mind. Yet some thugs claim I cannot hold independent views simply because I’m secretary-general.”
“Ile siku ODM watasema ati wanaenda na Kasongo, hio siku siko ndani. Mimi siko ndani kabisa,” he declared.
Sifuna’s comments came amid growing speculation that ODM could align with President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance under the ‘broad-based’ government deal. The arrangement has already seen some opposition leaders join the current administration.
However, Sifuna insisted that he would never be the one to read a statement endorsing Ruto in the 2027 elections.
“I am willing to read whatever statement ODM releases, even if it insults me. But if they ever decide to support Ruto in 2027, I will not read that, and I will not be part of it,” he said.
The Nairobi senator even threw a sarcastic jab at those interested in his position, mentioning Nyando MP Jared Okello, who some claim is better suited for the role because of his polished public speaking.
Sifuna also criticised ODM for losing its ideological direction, blaming the broad-based government arrangement for confusion within party ranks. He said the party no longer speaks with one voice, leaving members and supporters unsure of its stand on key issues.
