Police in Kakamega have urged residents to surrender teargas canisters that they collected during recent curfew enforcement exercise.

It is said the teargas canisters that the locals are in possession of, did not go off after being hurled at them by law enforcement officers.

The areas listed as ones where teargas canisters were thrown, but did not explode include: Maraba and Sichirayi, said Township Sub-Location Assistant Chief Isaac Ayumba.

It is reported that the youth have been throwing the teargas canisters at police officers who enforce the dusk-to-dawn curfew.

Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena says should those in possession of the teargas canisters fail to surrender them voluntarily, they (police) will launch a crackdown.
