The Ministry of Health has on Tuesday extended the operating hours for restaurants to 7.30 pm citing compliance with government regulations on Covid-19 containment.

Health Cabinet Secretary (CS Kagwe) made the announcement during the daily Covid-19 briefing where he revealed that another 133 people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

However, as restaurants get to operate for two more hours every day, bars will remain closed.

Among guidelines to be observed by eateries is checking the temperature of customers and testing their workers.

In addition, eateries are also to place tables at least 1.5 metres apart and restrict the number of customers per table.

During the briefing, CS Kagwe raised the alarm over the disproportionate infection of men compared to women.

He said that women seem to be getting less infected since they are more likely to obey government health regulations compared to men.

Most of the cases in Nairobi were in Westlands, Embakasi South, Makadara and Langata while in Mombasa, Kisauni bore the brunt of the virus.
