Joho vows to kick out anyone who tries to break ODM
By William Muthama, October 19, 2025Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has warned that anyone attempting to divide the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will face expulsion.
Speaking during the funeral service of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology on Sunday, October 19,2025, Joho emphasised that the party will remain strong and united.
“The values of ODM were instilled in me by Raila, and whoever tries to divide the party is the one that will leave,” Joho said. “ODM people, I have heard you. The principles and ideals of the party are in my heart, thanks to Raila Odinga. Whoever thinks they can break the ODM Party will be the one chased away. The party will remain standing and firm.”
Political journey
Joho also recalled how Raila had shaped his political journey despite his non-political family background. “I was a very young man from Kisauni, where nobody knew who I was. I went to see Raila, and he held my hand. I became an MP, a governor, and now a Cabinet Secretary,” he said, highlighting the late leader’s mentorship and enduring influence.

He reassured mourners that his loyalty to Raila extends beyond death. “I have never betrayed Raila while he was alive, and I will not betray him even in death. I cannot be where Raila did not take me. He brought me into the government of William Ruto, and that is where I belong and where I will stay,” Joho stated.
The CS admitted that Raila’s passing left him struggling for words. “For a long time, I have never been in a situation where I struggled to think about what to say. I want to take this opportunity to pray for Raila. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.

The remarks by Joho follow similar sentiments expressed by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, who stressed the need to preserve the party’s unity and strength.
Sifuna recalled Raila’s directive to field a candidate in the 2027 general election and warned against selfish narratives that could splinter the party.
Raila Odinga has been laid to rest at the family home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County, following a state funeral attended by national and international leaders. His legacy and the unity of ODM, Joho insisted, will remain a guiding force in Kenyan politics.
