Naivasha MP Kihara to Ruto: I once hosted you, now police block my guests

Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has sent a powerful reminder to President William Ruto, recalling how she once hosted him at her home in front of thousands of supporters hours after police mounted roadblocks near her gate.

Speaking outside her home, where police officers were stationed at every corner and had set up more than three roadblocks along the access road, on Saturday, August 9, 2025, Kihara expressed deep frustration over what she described as an unprecedented level of obstruction.

“Let Ruto know I have hosted him here with more than 3,000 people, let alone the approximately 20 who were coming today,” Kihara declared.

Kihara described the scene around her home as unusual and intimidating, pointing out that the road had never before been subjected to such severe policing measures.

She explained how the officers outside her gate claimed they were merely on routine patrols, yet their silence and refusal to engage with her spoke volumes about the seriousness of the operation.

“Those who know this road know there has never been a roadblock here before. Now, there are more than three, with police stationed outside my gate. When I spoke to the officer outside my gate, he told me they were on patrol, but she refused to talk to me,” Jayne said.

She went on to recount her efforts to get clarification from the police chain of command, revealing that the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) had redirected her to the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), but despite her repeated calls, she had been unable to make contact.

“When I asked the OCS why there was a roadblock, he told me to check with the OCPD. I have been trying to contact the OCPD since morning,” Kihara explained.

Rejecting police allegations that she was holding an illegal meeting on her private property, Kihara asserted her legal right to host guests of her choosing.

She emphasised that the visitors were supporters coming to express solidarity in light of the accusations and arrests she has recently endured.

“This is my private property; I can host whoever I need. They told me not to cook because they would come and cook for me, but now they cannot come,” she lamented.

Kihara also reminded the authorities of her status as an elected representative, insisting she would not be intimidated or silenced despite the ongoing attempts to restrict her activities.

“I want to tell them that I am a citizen of this country and I know my rights. I have been elected by these people to represent them,” she said defiantly.
