Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has told Deputy President William Ruto that he [Ruto] does not have any powers to call for the cancellation of all planned BBI meetings.

Kamket’s remarks made at Longeiwan in Samburu County during a peace meeting Monday come on the back of a strong statement issued by DP Ruto that he [Ruto] has what it takes to “stop reggae”.

Speaking last Sunday during worship at the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Gatunduri, Embu County, the deputy president claimed that the BBI meetings have been converted to chambers of propagating hate messages, contrary to the initiative’s intended key purpose of bridging ethnic and political divisions in Kenya.

“This story we’re being told about nobody can stop reggae, if the reggae is what we’re seeing — the ethnicity that is being preached in BBI rallies, the ethnic profiling of communities, hate and the campaign pitting one community against another, if that is the reggae they’re talking about, my friends, reggae will stop,” said the DP.

And now, Tiaty representative to the National Assembly, Kamket, has dared Ruto to make good on his threat, saying the DP stands no chance of emerging victorious in such a battle, given his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, is the key figure championing the BBI agenda.

“If Ruto believes he has the powers to stop the BBI agenda, then let him go ahead in his quest. We will be waiting to see the far he can get. His proclamation shows how bad-mannered he is. If he cannot read his boss’s body language, then he is not best-suited to be the deputy president.

“If your boss tells you to jump, you should inquire from him how high he wants you to go up. If your leader directs you to go right, you should be saying ‘yes, sir’, and not ask why he has given you those orders.”

Kamket further asked political leaders allied to DP Ruto to come clean on their stand on the BBI, and not to blow hot and cold on their said-support for the agenda.
