Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Sunday reacted sharply to the events that transpired in Mombasa on Saturday during a sensitisation rally for the Building Bridges Initiative report.

Kuria claimed that a 2022 line-up is being created and they will not allow themselves to be forced into the Orange Democratic Movement camp.

“It was a constitutional requirement yesterday to call Raila [Odinga] ‘baba’. I had my seat taken away because I didn’t stand…I say yes to BBI and not Raila,” said the Gatundu South legislator.

Mr Kuria said that over 180 MPs from his party have converged in Naivasha on Sunday to discuss two issues: Jubilee Party affairs and 2022 General Election plans.

“That is a Jubilee Parliamentary Group because these are MPs and senators. We are going to plan our 2022 plans. It is not criminal. You cannot go and give ODM the mantle for BBI and force us to take a back seat,” said the MP.

Saturday’s BBI rally in Mombasa ended prematurely when Raila abruptly left the podium shortly after Suna East MP Junet Mohamed announced that Kuria was to address the gathering.

K24 TV reporter, Daniel Kariuki, who covered the event in Mombasa, said Raila seemed to have been irked by some leaders who used their used their opportunity to speak to criticise Deputy President William Ruto.

“The ODM leader had sensed that tensions were rising and there was need for the ceremony to end peacefully as it had begun. According to the schedule, Raila was to speak last before the meeting ended.Based on the speeches that had been made — seemingly attacking those affiliated to DP William Ruto – Odinga called Joho, Junet, Abdulswamad Nassir and directed that the event ends,” said Kariuki.
