Ichung’wah mourns Raila’s death

“When the news was broken to us early this morning by the President, it was a difficult moment because a few weeks ago, I spoke to the former Prime Minister when he called to condole with me when I lost my dad,” Ichung’wah said.

He recalled how the late Raila always spoke to him with kindness and a fatherly tone. “I will live to recall how, whenever I spoke to the former Prime Minister, he called me ‘my son’,” he said.

The statement drew emotional reactions in Parliament, with several legislators listening in silence as the Majority Leader spoke.

Ichung’wah’s remarks gave Kenyans a glimpse into the human side of Raila Odinga, portraying him as a man who cared for others regardless of political differences.

Ruto praises Raila’s national legacy

President William Ruto, who officially announced Raila’s death, described him as a towering figure in Kenya’s history.

“Raila Odinga is truly a once-in-a-generation leader, a man whose ideals transcended politics and whose legacy will shape the destiny of Kenya for generations to come. A giant who towered for decades over our democratic landscape,” Ruto said.

Ruto’s words echoed the nation’s mood of mourning and respect.

As Kenya continues to honour Raila’s memory, Ichung’wah’s heartfelt tribute has stood out as a reflection of the bond the former Prime Minister shared even with those on the other side of the political aisle.
