Ichung’wah: My house was targeted during Saba Saba demos
By Luke Oluoch, July 9, 2025National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has confirmed being a target of an arson attack during the Saba Saba protest that marred the country on Monday, July 7, 2025.
The Kikuyu MP revealed that both his and his parents’ houses were targeted by arsonists during the protest.
Ichungw’ah made the revelation through a statement on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, where he accused the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of engaging in a campaign to malign his name and that of President William Ruto.
Arson attempts
Ichungw’ah has, however, stated that the attempt was thwarted by his neighbours and police officers.
“The arrest of his allies in Limuru, and elsewhere accused of torching the Kikuyu other public buildings in Kikuyu, and Dagoretti and the attempt to torch my house and that of my parents (thanks to my neighbours and patriotic officers who repulsed them) is what has now tickled off paranoid Gachagua. We will not sit back and watch as criminals pose as martyrs. We will not sit and watch as men with no respect for law and order seek to ignite a national pursuit of personal vendettas,” part of his statement read.
“Gachagua’s allegations today are just a reminder of his recent claims, which can only be described as a sickening stage-play, when Gachagua claimed and wanted Kenyans to believe that one George Koimburi a member of parliament was abducted and poisoned with gases, as he claimed, then only for the facts to later expose the lie. It’s not politics, it is pure madness,” he added.
In his fiery response to the former DP, Ichung’wah laughed off Gachagua’s remarks that he orchestrated attacks on police stations during the Saba Saba chaos, terming the allegations as senseless and ridiculous.

“My attention has been drawn to some ridiculous claims by Mr. Rigathi Gachagua, whom, for the longest time, has resisted responding to his barrage of ridiculous and senseless accusations, out of respect, perhaps even pity, for a man still licking the wounds of his impeachment,” he said.
He further challenged the DCP leader to seek legal redress at the International Criminal Court (ICC) if he believes he has a case and evidence regarding his allegations.
“His latest desperate act of accusing us of orchestrating the arrests of his criminal allies is as absurd as it is shameless. If he has an ounce of evidence to prove otherwise, let him take it to the ICC, the UN, or whatever rooftop he prefers. But don’t mistake accountability for persecution,” he stated.
