Handcuffs, cartridges, baton seized as 5 nabbed in Ongata Rongai raid

Police in Kajiado County have arrested five persons of interest and recovered government stores, including handcuffs, cartridges, and a police baton, in a security operation in Ongata Rongai.

In a statement on Thursday, September 18, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that officers on patrol near PEFA Church on September 17, 2025, intercepted two suspicious middle-aged men.

“A search of one suspect led to the recovery of a pair of handcuffs concealed in his jacket pocket. The second suspect, who initially attempted to escape, was apprehended after a brief pursuit,” read the statement in part.

Furthermore, the NPS revealed that upon interrogation, they led officers to the Kware area, where a raid on the premises uncovered four spent cartridges and a police baton. 

“Three further suspects were arrested at the scene, bringing the total number of arrests to five. The recovered items were secured as exhibits.”

Elsewhere, police arrest three persons of interest for impersonating police officers with assorted police uniforms.

Kolenyo

This comes a month after police officers in Kisumu County arrested one person of interest in possession of 24 mobile phones in Kolenyo Village, Seme Sub-County.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) stated that two laptops and a power bank were also recovered upon a search conducted at the person’s residence.

“Earlier today, 6 August 2025, officers from Kombewa Police Station, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a male suspect in Kolenyo Village, Seme Sub-County, Kisumu County,” the statement read in part.

“A search conducted at the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of 24 assorted mobile phones, two laptops, a black Lenovo and a grey HP, and an Orimo power bank, all suspected to have been stolen,” the statement read.

Further, the Service revealed that the person of interest is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court on 7 August 2025.
