Speaking at a local TV station on Monday, October 20, 2025, Osotsi said Raila’s leadership was guided by inclusivity and a deep sense of patriotism rather than tribal affiliation.

“Raila never believed in tribalism; some of those closest to him weren’t Luo. He never held grudges, even with those who differed with him politically,” Osotsi stated. “Let’s respect Baba in death, just as we did when he was alive.”

The senator emphasised the need for members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the wider Kenyan public to give the former Prime Minister the dignity and honour he deserves in death.

“I know many people loved Baba, especially within the ODM party. We need to respect him in death just as we respected him when he was alive. The best way to show that respect is by taking time to mourn him, at least 30 days, the African way, to reflect on his immense contribution to our society,” he added.

Osotsi cautioned against divisions within ODM and urged members to remain united during this period of mourning.

“We wouldn’t want to see a scenario where people start pushing and pulling now that Baba has gone. We want the party to stay together, to respect each person’s opinion, and move as one,” he added.

10-point agenda

This comes a day after Osotsi urged President William Ruto to fulfil the implementation of the broad-based agreement that he made with the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Siaya County during Raila Odinga’s burial ceremony, Osotsi said that fulfilling the 10-point agenda will further cement the legacy of the late former prime minister.

On March this year Baba Raila Odinga aliweka kidole kwa mkataba.

I know you have the ability, I know you have the capability and power, please make Baba happy in heaven.”
