The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced the steps to follow if you lose your academic certificates.

According to the council, you can apply for a letter of certification if you lose your papers. To apply, you must have a copy of the original certificate or result slip.

KNEC statement

“KNEC understands one can accidentally lose important documents, including academic papers. If you lose your certificates, you can apply for a letter of certification. To apply, a copy of either the original certificate or result slip is a mandatory requirement,” KNEC stated.

To apply for the letter of certification, register an account at https://qmis.knec.ac.ke. Log in with the credentials sent to your email, select the “Lost Certificate” option from the menu, fill in the index number, type of exam, and year, then click “FIND.”

Attach the following documents: a copy of the lost certificate/result slip (mandatory), both sides of your ID, a passport-size photo, a police abstract, and a confirmation from the registrar of persons (available at NSSF Building 7th floor, Upper Hill, Nairobi).

Submit the application and wait for verification. You will receive an SMS notification to log in and make a payment of Ksh5,220.

Keep checking the system to know the status of your application. Once the process is complete, you will receive an SMS notification to collect your certification letter from the KNEC offices.

KNEC on statement of results

In cases where copies are unavailable, you can apply for a statement of results.

“However, if you don’t have either, there is still help! You can apply for a statement of results (confirmation), which is a great option done on a need basis. This will be sent directly to the institution that needs to verify your exam results,” KNEC added.

To apply for a statement of results, register an account at https://qmis.knec.ac.ke or through eCitizen. Log in with the credentials sent to your email, select the “Confirmation” option from the menu, fill in the required details (index number, type of exam, year, and destination address details), and attach a copy of the certificate/result slip/result printout. Submit the application and wait for the system to generate the payment details.
