George Ruto’s ‘Mood’ involved in road accident
By Paulette Mboga, September 14, 2025George Ruto’s famous Mood matatu was involved in a road accident on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in the morning in Eldoret City.
The vehicle, valued at Ksh14 million, had just arrived for its highly anticipated homecoming event at Maili Tisa Park and Chill when the incident occurred.
According to images circulating on social media, Mood was seen with a visible dent after a 14-seater matatu reportedly rammed into it from behind. Police officers were already at the scene shortly after the crash. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.

Mood has been a major talking point since it was unveiled in July, quickly becoming one of the most recognisable public transport vehicles in Kenya.
With its flashy design and entertainment features, it has headlined major events across the country, especially in Nairobi.

On July 19, George Ruto officially launched the matatu at a high-profile concert held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
The event included a prayer session, the symbolic anointing of the matatu, and an entertainment concert that attracted hundreds of young people.
After the launch, Mood made a dramatic drive through Nairobi’s Central Business District, causing excitement and drawing crowds eager to catch a glimpse of the uniquely customised matatu.
With the Eldoret accident, questions may arise about the challenges of managing and maintaining such a high-value vehicle in the matatu industry, which is often chaotic and prone to accidents.
The matatu remains a symbol of creativity and style in Kenya’s matatu culture, which is famous worldwide for its vibrant artwork, powerful sound systems, and bold designs.
As of Sunday afternoon, Mood was still in Eldoret for the homecoming event, although slightly dented.
The full extent of the damage remains unclear, but what is certain is that the vehicle continues to draw national attention.
The incident has raised questions about the vehicle’s return to the road and whether the highly anticipated homecoming event will go on as planned.
The company, or George Ruto himself, is yet to make a public statement on the same.
