Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he has been removed from a presidential diary which is typically a WhatsApp group that details President William Ruto’s itinerary.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Friday night September 20, 2024, Gachagua explained how the diary works.

“It is a WhatsApp group and it is updated as you go on and the president updates it sometimes himself and we all keep on aligning. Sometimes he had a program, he removes it,” he elaborated.

Gachagua claimed the decision to remove him from a presidential WhatsApp group was part of a broader ploy to impeach him.

The DP explained that he has been missing some presidential functions because he is in the dark about Ruto’s schedule.

“There is a mischief to remove me from the diary, from the page where the diary is so that once I don’t attend presidential events it can be purported that I am absconding duty and I hear that is one of the grounds they wanted to look for to impeachment they say Rigathi Gachagua does not attend presidential functions,” Gachagua said.

The DP also added that the decision to boot him from the WhatsApp group is also meant to portray him as a disrespectful deputy who arrives at presidential events late after his boss has already checked in.

He further claimed that there is also an effort to manipulate perceptions of his professionalism.

“Or sometimes they want you to get late so that it appears that I am being disrespectful,” he said.

Gachagua, however, absolved Ruto from the blame, pointing an accusing figure at State House operatives whom he blames for creating a rift between him and Ruto.

He suggested that these individuals are intentionally sowing discord between him and the president, potentially for political gain.

Gachagua further indicated that he plans to address these issues directly with Ruto upon his return to Kenya from his trip to the US.

The situation raises significant questions about the dynamics within Kenya’s current administration and the interplay between communication and governance in an era where digital platforms increasingly shape political narratives.

As Gachagua navigates these challenges, both his future in office and the broader stability of the ruling coalition may hinge on the resolution of this internal conflict.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the implications of Gachagua’s claims will likely reverberate through the corridors of power in Nairobi, reflecting the fragility of alliances in high-stakes governance.
