Fernandes Barasa: ODM to support UDA candidate in Malava by-election
By William Muthama, September 22, 2025Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has announced that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will back United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa in the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.
Speaking on Monday, September 22, 2025, in Kakamega Barasa, who also serves as ODM County Chairperson, said the party will not field a candidate in the race, emphasising that the decision is aimed at promoting unity and prioritising development for the people of Malava.

“We have decided to support David Ndakwa as part of a broad-based approach to governance. Our focus is on service delivery and continuing the projects initiated by the late Hon. Malulu,” Barasa said.
He clarified that ODM’s endorsement is not a betrayal of party principles but a strategic move to ensure effective leadership in the constituency. “This is about delivering results for the residents, not political rivalry,” he added.

ODM County Chairperson pledged to mobilise its members to campaign for Ndakwa, highlighting the importance of local collaboration to secure a win.
“Nguvu zetu zote tutaweka hapa ilituakikishe watu wa Malava wamemchagua mweshimiwa ndakwa”Barasa said.
Barasa urged residents to focus on leadership and development rather than partisan battles, highlighting the potential for the constituency to benefit from broad-based governance.
Ndakwa clinched the UDA nomination with 6,477 votes in the party primaries, outpacing his closest competitor, Ryan Injendi, who received 3,783 votes.
He will face opponents including Seth Panyako of DAP-K, Edgar Busiega of DCP, Wilberforce Tuvei of Kenya Moja, and Joab Manyasi of DNA in the by-election.
The Malava parliamentary seat fell vacant earlier this year following the death of MP Malulu Injendi.
