A 45-year-old casual labourer has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after an Eldoret Court found him guilty of defiling his six- year-old daughter.

Dickson Kipkemboi is accused of defiling his daughter on August 15, 2015 at Tamboiyot in Uasin Gishu county.

He told Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa on Friday that he was indeed the father of the victim, but denied defiling her after his wife left him.

In mitigation, the accused claimed he had been framed, noting that the medical report presented in court did not show there was any penetration and asked to be acquitted.

Kipkeboi urged the magistrate to have mercy on him saying his wife eloped with his employer subjecting him to frustration and depression.

“The witnesses who have testified against me have not explained the circumstance that led to my wife leaving me and went to start a new life with my employer,” he said. The accused was given 14 days to appeal.
