Defilement cases on the rise: Sex pests target girls of ages between 12 and 15 in Kericho County

The children’s department of Kericho county has raised concern over the rising cases of defilement in the area. Kericho County Assistant Director of Children’s Services Jane Rono said cases of defilement among girls between the age of 12 and 15 were reported to their office on a daily basis.

Most of the culprits were using gifts to lure the minors before defiling them, she said. “The cases are rampant especially in Sosiot and Sondu areas and the saddest part is that most cases involve close relatives and acquaintances,” she said.

She called on parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and report cases of sexual abuse to the authorities so that victims can get justice.

“Most guardians are being intimidated not to report cases thus denying victims justice,” the official said. “My office is creating awareness through the media as a way of sensitising the community on how to deal with gender-based violence,” Rono said
