Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has warned parents, teachers, and candidates against engaging in examination irregularities, saying they risk arrest and prosecution.

Speaking during a fundraiser for Nyagesenda Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kitutu Chache North Constituency, Kisii County, the CS noted that 3.4 million candidates in primary, junior, and senior secondary schools are sitting for their examinations and appealed to stakeholders to allow them to do the exams and achieve what they deserve.

Ogamba said the candidates have been well prepared for the examinations and urged parents and guardians to report any examination malpractices in their localities so that culprits can face the law.

“Those people found engaging in cheating and other malpractices will record statements instantly, and they should not cry when jailed,” Ogamba said

He was accompanied by area lawmaker Japhet Nyakundi and colleagues Steve Mogaka (West Mugirango), Dorice Donya (Kisii County), Jerusa Momanyi (Nyamira), Sabina Chege (Murang’a), Brighton Yegon (Konoin), and Lillian Sioi (Trans Nzoia).

Ogamba said the government had conducted verification of schools and most had received capitation. He noted that the verification was meant to confirm data to help the government make the right decisions on capitation and clean the system to foster transparency and accountability in the education sector.

“We must interrogate our systems and rectify mistakes as we gear towards becoming a first-world nation in line with President William Ruto’s vision. For us to move forward, we must play our roles well and do the right things,” Ogamba noted.

Meanwhile, he appealed to leaders in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, founded 20 years ago by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, to strengthen it. He challenged ODM leaders to advance the beliefs of their party leader in promoting democracy, integrity, accountability, and good governance.

Echoing his sentiments, Nyakundi blamed some unnamed ODM leaders for rocking the party from within, adding that as partners in the broad-based Kenya Kwanza government, they would not allow it.

“The United Democratic Alliance cannot spoil ODM, and leaders cannot allow others to do it. The party is older than others, and we cannot allow it to be split into two,” Nyakundi said.

The MP noted that Raila stood for democracy and social justice, adding that it was necessary for leaders to perpetuate the ideals of the party to enhance good leadership.

Sabina, who represented Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, said Central Kenya respected Raila and that the opinions of Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga were his own and not those of residents of Central Kenya.

“We want the country to be peaceful and united for us to realize development. We will not allow some individuals to breach the peace,” Chege noted.
