Seventy-four more people tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing total cases in Kenya to 1,962.
The number of those who have died of the coronavirus disease also rose on Sunday, May 31, to 64 after one person died in Kayole, Nairobi County.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Aman said that another 14 people were discharged from various hospitals, bringing the number of recoveries to 478.
The Health official warned that smokers are more vulnerable to severe forms of coronavirus.
Further, Dr. Aman said that slum areas remain areas of concern as the national government intensifies the fight against Covid-19.
So far, Kenya has tested 78,536 samples.
“This number of positive cases is still high, and we must be concerned as a nation,” said Dr. Aman.
Thirty-five of the new cases were confirmed in Nairobi, with 19 of them from Langata, three each in Embakasi East and Central, two each in Westlands.
Mombasa had 23 cases with Mvita leading with 11 infections while Busia County had six cases.
Kwale, Kajiado and Uasin Gishu had two cases each while Kilifi, Laikipia and Taita Taveta had one each.
