Kenya has confirmed 30 new Covid-19 cases spread out in Nairobi, Mombasa, Bungoma and Kitui counties.

This now brings to 465 the number of coronavirus cases confirmed in the country.

Of those 30 new cases, 19 are in Mombasa, eight in Nairobi, two in Bungoma and one in Kitui.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Rashid Aman, said the case in Kitui was reported in Mwingi town while the two in Bungoma are truck drivers.

The cases were confirmed from 883 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours.

Speaking during the government briefing on Sunday, May 3, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha bemoaned the return of normal traffic on Nairobi roads.

Prof Magoha chided Nairobi Metropolitan Area residents for throwing care to the wind and carrying on as if the pandemic is not real.

Further, the Education CS clarified his position on reopening of schools, saying that schools are to remain closed until June 4.

However, the CS said that the decision to reopen schools will still have to be made by the national committee.

Addressing a press conference in Bungoma, the local governor Wycliffe Wangamati called for his county to categorized as a high-risk area.

Wangamati urged the government to set up a Covid-19 testing centre in Bungoma since the county has a heavy presence of cross-border trucks.
