Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has openly welcomed the removal of Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro from the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday night, July 30, 2025, Cherargei claimed that Nyoro was taking advantage of access to information for personal gain.

“I am happy he (MP Ndindi Nyoro) has been dewhipped, he was taking advantage of access to information,” he claimed.

Nyoro’s reshuffle

Ndindi Nyoro’s political trajectory has seen significant shifts in recent months. Once a close ally of President William Ruto and a key figure within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Nyoro was first removed from his role as chairperson of the Budget Committee in March 2025.

He was subsequently replaced by Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi.

In the latest National Assembly reshuffle, Nyoro was among MPs reassigned following a motion moved by the Majority Whip, Silvanus Osoro, which was adopted by the House during the plenary sitting held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

Under the new arrangement, Nyoro has moved from the Budget and Appropriations Committee to the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee a move perceived by many as a demotion. His previous slot in the influential Budget Committee has now been filled by Edwin Mugo Gichuki.

“The National Assembly has approved changes to its committee memberships. This follows a motion moved by the Majority Whip, Hon. Silvanus Osoro, which was adopted by the House on Tuesday, July 29th 2025,” the National Assembly wrote on X.

Nyoro on his removal

Nyoro expressed bewilderment over his replacement, following his removal as the chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, March 18 2025, he stated that he received no prior communication from coalition leaders regarding any issues with his performance.

“I don’t know why I was replaced and I am saying it in good faith,” Nyoro stated.

“I did not come here to accuse anyone today. I only came to set the record straight,” he added.

He highlighted that no leadership figure within the ruling coalition had approached him concerning his work as committee chair.

“No one in the leadership of our coalition from whichever position has ever called me in regard to the position. In regards to what I need to do better, in regards to what I need to change… I read in newspapers about myself, the same way you do in terms of this position. That is the truth,” he explained.

Despite the circumstances of his removal, Nyoro reflected positively on his time leading the committee, acknowledging the demanding nature of the role.

“This position is very involving, sometimes sleeping in this office, leaving here very early in the morning, not just myself but also the members we were serving with, but it was also an experience to learn and know Kenya,” he said.
