Cherargei calls for probe into Kisumu–Kakamega highway crash
By Valerian Khakayi, August 8, 2025Senator for Nandi County, Samson Cherargei, has called for swift investigations into the tragic accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway that claimed 21 lives.
The fatal accident occurred on Friday evening, August 8, 2025, after a school bus belonging to Naki AIC High School overturned near the Coptic roundabout area, marking one of the deadliest accidents in recent times along this route.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Cherargei urged the traffic police department to expedite investigations into the horrific crash that claimed lives and left others injured.
He further called on all road users to adhere to the traffic rules to help prevent such tragic road accidents in the future.
“We hope the traffic police department shall expedite the investigations into what led to this horrible accident today. Drivers and road users should drive carefully and follow traffic rules to the later to avoid such tragic road accidents in future,” Cherargei urged.
Condolence message
The vocal senator, in addition, expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims.
“My deepest condolences to the family and friends who have lost their loved ones through a tragic road accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway. It is unfortunate that we have lost 21 lives and several injured. To the injured individuals, we wish them a quick recovery,” he consoled.
NTSA on the accident
This comes after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) disclosed that it has launched investigations into a devastating road crash.
In a statement issued on their X account, NTSA Director General George Njao confirmed that the authority had deployed a team of road safety auditors to the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, which involved a Naki High School bus ferrying family members returning from a burial.
“To aid investigations into the cause of the crash, the Authority has dispatched a team of road safety auditors to the scene. We will provide more information as the investigations commence,” the statement read.
The Authority further expressed its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident and extended wishes for a quick recovery to those who sustained injuries.
“The Authority takes this moment to condole with the families of those who lost their lives through the tragic crash along the Kisumu – Kakamega Highway involving a Naki High School Bus,” the statement added.
NTSA has assured the public that more information will be provided as the investigations continue.
