CCTV footage captures moment goons storm KHRC to disrupt press conference

By , July 7, 2025

The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has shared CCTV footage showing the moment goons on motorcycles stormed their offices in Lavington on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

The harrowing footage captures the moment when dozens of goons on motorcycles arrive at the venue and force open the gate after manhandling a security guard stationed at the premises.

They then proceed to the press conference and disrupt the event, forcing the women and activists to scamper for safety as they pick up items dropped by the fleeing people.

Disrupt press conference

In a statement by the rights body, the goons stormed the premises at exactly 2:08 pm on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

“They violently disrupted a press conference by Kenyan mothers calling for an end to arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings targeting protesters ahead of Saba Saba demonstrations,” the KHRC statement reads in part.

“Saba Saba has been marked annually as a symbol of resistance and civic courage in ongoing struggles.”

The commission observed that the attack was calculated to stifle dissent and that they would not be silenced.

“This was a calculated escalation in the campaign of intimidation by the William Ruto regime against the KHRC—following the extraordinary illegal rendition of our staff Martin Mavenjina—and human rights defenders holding it accountable for gross human rights violations. We will not be silenced!” the statement read.

Kenyan mothers called for a press conference to demand an immediate end to the arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings.

Changed venue

The attack came after the human rights organisation announced a change of venue for the press conference on the upcoming Saba Saba protests.

In a statement shared on the night of Saturday, July 5, 2025, the human rights body said that the press set for Sunday, July 6, 2025, will now be held at the organisation’s offices along Amboseli Road, off Gitanga Road.

The media briefing was initially set to happen at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi.

“NOTE: The venue has been changed from All Saints’ Cathedral to the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), 849 Amboseli Road, Off Gitanga Road,” the notice read.
