Caleb Amisi threatens to quit ODM over its union with Ruto

By , July 29, 2025

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has said he will quit the Orange Democratic Movement Party should it continue to collaborate with President William Ruto’s government.

Amisi, who spoke to a local TV station on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, said that ODM must now choose whether to remain in its roots or continue its current partnership path, which he believes is causing confusion among supporters.

The youthful MP made it clear that he does not support the ongoing cooperation between ODM and the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration. He said the move is weakening the opposition and leaving many Kenyans unsure of where the party stands.

“If ODM continues collaborating with William Ruto, then I will not seek re-election on that party. But if it pulls out, realigns, and retraces its steps back to its roots, then we can agree,” Amisi said.

He called on ODM to return to its original mission of standing with the people, fighting injustice, and offering alternative leadership. He warned that unless the party makes a clear decision soon, it risks losing support from its loyal base.

Clarion call to ODM

“ODM must make a decision now because there is confusion even among its supporters who do not agree with the idea of a broad-based approach,” he said.

Amisi also criticised the current government, saying there is little for ordinary citizens to benefit from. He believes that joining hands with the government only makes it harder to hold it accountable.

“Otherwise, there is nothing to enjoy in this government,” he added.

His remarks come at a time when speculation is growing over the future of opposition politics in Kenya. ODM leader Raila Odinga has in recent months been seen working closely with President Ruto, especially after agreeing to support Kenya’s bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship.

So far, ODM has not officially responded to Amisi’s warning, but the debate over the party’s direction continues to divide opinion both within its leadership and among supporters.
