Aspirant defies Jubilee party position on Mbeere North by-election

By , September 14, 2025

Mbeere North aspirant Jacob Ireri Mbao has declared that he will run for the upcoming parliamentary by-election on a Jubilee ticket, despite conflicting statements from within the party.

Speaking during a press briefing in Embu town on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Mbao, who is deaf, reaffirmed his loyalty to Jubilee and its leader, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying, “Jubilee is my home, and I am not leaving. My investment, my vision, and my journey remain firmly tied to this party. We must protect it from opportunists and rebuild it to its former glory.”

Conflicting statements dismissed

Mbao’s remarks come after Jubilee deputy secretary Pauline Njoroge suggested that the party would not field a candidate in the Mbeere North race.

Her statement caused confusion among grassroots supporters and appeared to put Mbao’s candidacy at risk.

He dismissed the comments as “misguided and out of touch with the people,” emphasising that only the Jubilee National Executive Committee, under Uhuru Kenyatta, can authorise candidates.

“The people of Mbeere North deserve a Jubilee candidate who reflects their aspirations and development agenda. I call on our party leadership to urgently issue me with the certificate. I am ready to carry the flag and deliver victory,” Mbao said.

Conflicting statements dismissed

Despite internal turbulence, Mbao assured supporters that his campaign will continue to prioritise development, democracy, and good governance.

He pledged to complete ongoing projects initiated by the former MP while introducing new initiatives to improve residents’ lives.

“Our journey has not changed. Our resolve remains firm, and our campaign is anchored on the values that matter to our people. No matter the challenges, I will be on the ballot to give Mbeere North a chance at real transformation,” he added.

The by-election has drawn strong competition from Leonard Muthende (UDA), Duncan Mbui (Chama Cha Kazi), and Newton Karish (Democratic Party). Analysts say Mbeere North will be a political hotspot as parties test their strength ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“I remain hopeful. The people of Mbeere North are behind me, and no amount of confusion will stop our march to victory,” Mbao concluded.
