Amisi mocks Ruto over wildebeest migration launch
By Ascah Mwango, July 24, 2025Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has poked fun at President William Ruto for holding a launch ceremony for the annual wildebeest migration, calling it unnecessary since the event is a natural phenomenon that happens every year.
In a sarcastic post shared on his official X account on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Amisi criticised the president for turning a natural occurrence into what he viewed as a publicity stunt. The lawmaker further mocked the administration by suggesting that the President should also prepare to launch the upcoming total lunar eclipse expected on March 3, 2026.
“After you finish launching the wildebeest migration, please prepare to launch the total lunar eclipse on 3rd March next year. And please remind @OleItumbi not to post this as a project by the Kenya Kwanza government. It is a natural phenomenon,” Amisi said in his post.
His remarks came shortly after President Ruto addressed the media at the Maasai Mara, where he presided over a special ceremony to mark the beginning of the world-famous wildebeest migration.

Ruto in Maasai Mara
The president had arrived in the reserve to witness the spectacular event, often referred to as one of the seven wonders of the world. During his speech, Ruto urged Kenyans and the world to celebrate and promote Kenya’s unique natural and historical attractions.
“We are gathered here in the Maasai Mara, a place where the world thrives and land breathes, and nature puts on her best performance. This is the theatre of the great wildebeest migration, one of the world’s most awe-inspiring and mesmerising natural wonders. One that has earned its place among the new seven wonders of the world,” the president said.
He described the migration as a symbol of Kenya’s strength and resilience.
“Every year, millions of wildebeests cross vast, unforgiving terrain in search of something better. They face danger, hunger, and uncertainty, but they press on. In their journey, we see the story of Kenya. Like them, we have often faced adversity, but we keep moving, we adapt, we rise, we up the game, and we push forward together,” he added.
Ruto also highlighted Kenya’s rich historical legacy, noting that the country is known as the cradle of humankind.
“People do not visit Kenya; they come back to Kenya because this is the home of humankind. Next time, I will showcase where the earliest remains of the first man on earth are,” said the President.
