86% of Kenyans don’t like Ruto’s presidency – Fred Ogolla

By , August 28, 2025

Governance Expert Fred Ogolla has said President William Ruto’s popularity amongst Kenyans is on a downward curve.

Speaking to a local TV station on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Ogolla cited findings from the Pino Poll, which, according to him, revealed that 86 per cent of Kenyans are dissatisfied with Ruto’s leadership.

Ogolla likened the President’s current position to that of a cornered leader facing growing rejection from citizens across the country.

He warned that the political tide was shifting and that Ruto might not withstand the growing wave of discontent.

“Pino poll shows that William Ruto is lacking the support of 86% of Kenyans.

“He has become that leader who looks like this thing called mbwa mwitu, whereby everywhere he is being chased one term here, one term there.

“There is a wave. This wave will go down with someone. And that person everyone knows,” Ogolla remarked.

Ruto compared to the Titanic disaster

In his sharp criticism, Ogolla drew parallels between Ruto’s presidency and historical disasters, saying that no leader, however powerful, can withstand the force of public dissatisfaction.

“There is a flood. When you build on the route for water, the flood will sweep that house, no matter how strong it is. The Titanic went down. Is Ruto bigger than the Titanic? No matter what you do, tribal issue isn’t the issue,” he said.

Ogolla argued that Kenyan politics has never been determined by ethnicity alone but by individual leadership qualities.

He pointed out that since independence, no community has exclusively ruled Kenya; instead, leadership has been about individuals.

Growing wave of dissatisfaction

Ogolla’s remarks come at a time when President Ruto is facing increased scrutiny from political rivals, civil society, and a frustrated Gen Z movement.

The Head of State has been accused of failing to fulfil pre-election promises, with critics pointing to rising costs of living, governance controversies, and divisive politics.

The governance expert insisted that the current dissatisfaction reflects a deepening disconnect between the administration and the people.

If the trend continues, he warned, Ruto’s presidency could be swept aside by the very wave he underestimates.
