Police in Kayole, Nairobi on Wednesday evening arrested five people after raiding bars and liquor stores that have been operating in contravention of government Covid-19 regulations.

Several other drunken revellers escaped as police seized seven crates of beer and assorted spirits during the operation.

Among those arrested was a bar owner, who according to the police, has been arrested twice for running the business after all bars were ordered closed by the government as a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Speaking to K24 Digital, some locals expressed displeasure by how a section of Kayole residents are disregarding the curfew rules and other set regulations, leaving the police with no choice other than using force to control defiant individuals.

Those arrested were taken to Kayole Police Station awaiting arraignment at the Kasarani Court.
