4 more die as total cases hit 1, 745 after 127 test positive for coronavirus: Distribution

Kenya recorded 127 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 1, 745, Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, announced.

The 127 cases were discovered in 3, 831 samples tested between Thursday and Friday.

All the 127 new patients are Kenyans, said Dr. Mwangangi.

In terms of counties, the following regions produced the new cases: Nairobi (76), Mombasa (19), Busia (16), Uasin-Gishu (8), Kiambu (2), Kajiado (5) and Isiolo (1).

In Nairobi, the 76 new infections were recorded in the following estates: Kibra (49), Ruaraka (13), Makadara (4), Westlands (4), Lang’ata (2), Embakasi West (1), Dagoretti North (1), Kasarani (1) and Starehe (1).

In Mombasa, the 19 cases were registered in the following areas: Kisauni (7) Mvita (6) Nyali (3), Likoni (2) and Jomvu (1).

In Busia, the 16 cases were drawn from Busia Town (8), Malaba border point (2) and Alupe quarantine facility (6).

Turbo area posted all the eight cases in Uasin Gishu County, whereas the five cases in Kajiado County were drawn from Kajiado North and Namanga border point.

The two cases in Kiambu County were discovered in Kiambu Town and Kabete areas.

The single case in Isiolo was recorded in Isiolo Town.

Kenya has thus far tested 74, 003 samples for coronavirus, said Dr. Mwangangi while addressing journalists at Afya House in Nairobi on Friday, May 29.

Four persons died of the disease, bringing to 62 the total number of fatalities arising from COVID-19. All the deceased patients come from Mombasa, and had underlying medical conditions, including diabetes, hypertension and asthma, said Dr. Mwangangi.

Seventeen (17) more persons recovered from COVID-19 in Kenya, pushing the total number of recoveries to 438, said the CAS.
