22 new infections, 4 deaths: How Kenya’s new coronavirus stats are distributed

Kenya registered 22 new coronavirus cases, pushing the country’s total number of confirmed infections to 737, Health CAS Dr. Rashid Aman said on Wednesday, May 13.

The 22 cases were discovered in 1, 516 samples tested between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Twenty one (21) of the confirmed cases were registered among Kenyans, whereas one was Ugandan.

The age bracket of the 22 new infections ranges from 20 years old to 81 years old.

Seventeen (17) of the new patients are male, whereas five are female.

The new cases were drawn from four counties including Nairobi (10), Mombasa (8), Kajiado (3) and Bomet (1).

In terms of estates that produced the new infections, Nairobi had Embakasi (4), Kumukunji (3), Kibra (2), and the Kenyatta National Hospital (1).

In Mombasa, Mvita produced seven of the eight cases, with Nyali posting one infection.

All the three cases registered in Kajiado County were from Namanga area.

Dr Aman revealed that 25 truck drivers tested for coronavirus by Kenyan health officers in Namanga, Tanzania side, returned positive results, and were blocked from entering Kenya. The 25 are being treated in Tanzania, said Dr. Aman.

Twenty three (23) of the 25 truck drivers were Tanzanian nationals, whereas one was Rwandese, and the other one was a Ugandan national.

The CAS also revealed that Kenya posted 22 new recoveries, bringing to 281 the total number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19.

Unfortunately, Kenya lost four more people to coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths arising from the disease to 40.

The four new fatalities were registered in Nairobi (3) and Mombasa (1).

The country has thus far tested 35, 432 samples for coronavirus, said Dr. Aman.

Twenty (20) counties have so far produced the 737 coronavirus infections in Kenya. Bomet County is the latest to post a case. The patient in Bomet, who was diabetic, however, died.
