2 suspected gang members nabbed in Mombasa
By Paulette Mboga, August 7, 2025Police in Mombasa have nabbed two suspected gang members following a late-night operation in Kisauni. The two were found armed with pangas and are currently in custody awaiting processing and arraignment.
According to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) on X on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the persons of interest were apprehended at around 11:45 pm on Wednesday after members of the public reported suspicious activity in the Kadongo Stage area.
Officers from Mjambere Police Station responded swiftly to the alert and managed to apprehend two individuals believed to be part of a group of armed young men.
The operation was triggered by a tip-off from concerned residents who noticed a group of young men reportedly armed and gathering at the stage. In response, officers moved quickly to the location where they found the two suspects in possession of pangas — bladed weapons often linked to gang violence and street crime.

The quick intervention is being seen as a show of improved coordination between the police and the public in efforts to reduce crime in Mombasa, particularly in Kisauni, which has in the past been flagged as a hotspot for youth-related violence.
Police confirmed that the two suspects are in custody and will be processed and charged accordingly.
Police urge continued public cooperation
In their statement, the National Police Service thanked members of the public for their vigilance and for promptly reporting the suspicious activity. They also reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, especially in urban areas where gangs often seek to take advantage of limited visibility at night.
“The National Police Service remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents,” the statement read.
“We appreciate the public’s continued support and urge everyone to remain vigilant and to work closely with law enforcement to keep our communities safe.”
The arrest highlights the crucial role that community members play in supporting policing efforts, especially in identifying and reporting potential threats before they escalate.
Investigations into the suspects are ongoing as police seek to determine whether they are part of a larger gang operating in the area. Authorities have pledged to intensify night patrols in crime-prone zones as part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety.
